BIC participated in a series of discussions in July, including the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) Roundtable – COVID-19 Response Enquiry, and the Transport and Infrastructure Net Zero Consultation Roadmap: Public and Active Transport Online Stakeholder Roundtable.

Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) Roundtable – COVID-19 Response Enquiry
BIC participated in a roundtable on 4 July 2024 to discuss experiences and views of Australia’s pandemic response. This included identifying gaps, suggestions to improve and prioritise responses to future public health emergencies.

Key themes were:

• Financial support (such as JobKeeper)
• Engagement with Government
• Workforce and labour issues
• Challenges associated with public health orders (such as social distancing measures)
• Supply chain challenges and the impact on business

We emphasised the impact COVID-19 had on the bus and coach industry, in particular the lack of financial support provided for the industry.

Transport and Infrastructure Net Zero Consultation Roadmap: Public and Active Transport Online Stakeholder Roundtable
On 26 June 2024, BIC participated in the Public and Active Transport Online Stakeholder Roundtable to explore the role of the public and active transport sector and the potential decarbonisation pathways highlighted in the Transport and Infrastructure Net Zero Consultation Roadmap. The discussion focused on decarbonisation technologies and the challenges and opportunities associated with transitioning to net zero, particularly in relation to public and active transport stakeholders. Key themes are as follows:

• The guiding principles of the Consultation Roadmap
• The proposed technologies and timeline for uptake of these technologies.
• Challenges and opportunities for both government and stakeholders.

We addressed the consultation paper in consultation with the BIC ZEB Committee and will submit its response on 2 August 2024.
